Which would you choose? We animated faces using Morfo on the Ipads and recorded our voices to persuade people to live in Athens or Sparta. Where would you prefer to live?

We worked in groups to turn the story of Daedalus and Icarus into a playscript and then we use the scripts to act out the play. We hope that you enjoy our Greek tragedy.
This week, the wonderful 'Nineus' from Portals to the Past came in to teach us all about Ancient Greece. We dressed in Ancient Greek costume, took part in active story telling, quizzes, Greek strategy games and even had our very own Ancient Greek Olympics - Athens v's Sparta! We had an amazing day. Here are our photos and memories. This week the whole school has been thinking about how to 'Be Well'! In year 5, we have talked about how to look after our body and mind and we set ourselves challenges to be calmer and more healthy. We have also had a go at Yoga and Mindfulness which we found very helpful for focusing our mind and getting us ready to learn. We talked about giving and receiving compliments and made positive posters for each other to raise our self esteem. In the afternoons, we have been making dream catchers so that at night, our good dreams can enter our minds and the bad ones are kept away! Take a look at our achievements! Happy 200th Birthday to our Queen's Great-great Grandmother, Queen Victoria, who would have been 200 years old today! We celebrated by learning all about her life and reign. We even managed to E Mail her and get some answers! Our Greek God Portraits are coming along nicely. We have used careful painting skills to give our portraits some colour. Look how well we've done. This half term we have been learning all about the proportions of the face and how to draw a portrait. We have put our skills to good use by drawing a portrait of a Greek God of Olympus. We are using paint to add colour to our drawings. We have discussed colour mixing and how to produce a skin colour paint. Watch this space for our finished products... On Wednesday, we were privileged to have a visitor from the Jewish community in our school to teach us all about the Jewish Home. Mr Arnold Klein spoke to us about the Mezuzah, the Passover meal, what Jews wear in the Synagogue. the festival of Hanukkah and he even taught us some songs! He was very interesting and we learned alot.
At the end of last week, every class took part in an Inter-house Spelling Bee. Everyone took part. The highest scorers from each house went head-to-head spelling on whiteboards in front of their year group. Well done to all spellers but especially to those who were successful at spelling some very tricky words! A Huge Thank You to the PA who organised an Easter Egg Challenge for us just before the holidays. We had to work as a team to unravel the anagrams and we all earned a yummy chocolate egg! We really enjoyed it and the fabulous 'bunnies' who helped us too! Happy Easter! |
